Miscellaneous "One of a Kind" and "Factory Seconds"
We
have a limited selection of unique "one of a kind" specimens that are
individually priced. These have been accumulated during previous test
runs over the years. Some may need a bit of loving care, elbow grease,
and some Novus Plastic Polish to bring them back to their full beauty.
We also have a limited
number of
standard specimens that are less than perfect. Many have
a small (1/2" max, many 1/4" or less) fracture in the area where the discharge exited the
plastic. These defects can often be hidden by simply inserting the specimens into one
of our custom lighted bases. Others may have heavier discharge areas near the
main discharge "stem" or root that are slightly charred from the passage
of high current. Although this makes these
specimens somewhat less attractive when not illuminated, these
specimens often are often some of the most interesting since they typically
contain very unique patterns and combinations of chaotic and dense
dendritic discharges. They become unique and very attractive
specimens when
edge illuminated by
bright LED's, as the light is reflected and refracted off the chonchoidal
fractures in the pattern. This can be seen in the "Heavy Weather"
specimens (Style 16), where a combination of "snowflake" and chaotic

Depending
on the nature of the defect, we have a large number of specimens
that are priced at 50% of their more perfect
counterparts. Some may have a small chip or fracture (usually at the site of the discharge), while
others may only have an extra "ding" or two from an unsuccessful discharge
attempt. For example, "factory second" Style
8 figures are priced at $55 versus the regular price
of $110. Not all styles have "seconds". Currently available styles with
one or more "factory seconds" include styles 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 19, 19A, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30, 31, 43, 45, and 46. Please describe which "one of a kind" specimen or "factory second"
style(s) you want and I'll try to provide one, but remember that it's
first come first served - when these are gone they're gone. I'll try to put some more photos here soon.
