We can also do "Custom Shrinking" |
Although I usually shrink quarters to 70-75% of their original diameter (slightly smaller than a US Dime), I can adjust the degree of shrinkage upon request. I can also "custom shrink" other types of coins. For example, collectors have sent me Silver Eagles, Churchill Crowns, Asian coins, bimetal coins, transportation and tax tokens, and even gold bullion coins to "shrink to order". Whenever possible, please send 1-2 spares of any uncommon coin to be custom shrunk so that I can "tune" the process for your coins. This also allows for process dropout.

NOTES: |
1: US Cents minted after 1982 do NOT survive the shrinking process - they simply explode in a shower of molten zinc droplets! |
2: Steel
Cents (1943) don't work
either. We get good results for bronze coins (1910-1942) and best
results with Indian Head Cents (they really look great!). |
3: Copper-nickel alloy coins (nickels) don't shrink as well as clad coins - diameter will be ~90% of the original coin |
4: For custom shrinking of uncommon coins or tokens please send 1-2 spares of each coin so that I can "tune" the shrinking process. This also allows for process dropout. Shrinking is still more of an art than a science.... |
5: Proof coins simply don't shrink well at all - in fact, they turn out really ugly! Circulating coins are recommended. |
6: A random mix of D and P mint marked coins will be supplied for state quarter sets unless customer specifies otherwise |
7:
The higher surface features on certain coins can create internal
imbalances during the shrinking process. This causes Kennedy's bust to
have a small concave indentation by his left ear and a matching convex
projection of the shield on the reverse side. Older style (pre-1991)
Washington quarters and copper Lincoln Cents (1942-1982) tend to push
out the portrait, creating a matching concave region on the reverse
side of the coin. This is an inherent
property of these coins and is unavoidable. |
8:
Newer coins are made from nickel or copper plated steel. These shrink
only about 1% due to poor electrical conductivity and are not offered. |
Ordering Instructions: |
1. Most items can be ordered via the Shopping Cart. However, if you want items not directly offered please email me for a quote. 2. Select coins from the Coins Available section above. Use your web browser's "back" button to return here. 3. Use the Shrunken Head Price List to find the cost for your coins. Use your Browser's "back" button to return here. 4. If you're ordering state quarters, please specify which state(s) you want, or if you want earlier "eagle" style. If ordering a pendant, please specify if the head or tail of the coin should face outwards. 5. I use the US Post Office for shipping orders, and Shipping and Handling will be $2.50 per order. Please let me know if you'd like to insure your order - insurance costs are shown in the table below. Illinois residents will need to add 6.75% for Illinois Retail Sales Tax. 6. Once you've made your selections, add up the total for the coins. You can email, call, or write me to confirm your order. I'll need to know which coin(s) you want, how you plan to pay, your mailing address, and any custom shrinking requests. I'll get back to you within 24 hours with a quote, and I usually ship within 2-4 business days after receipt of payment. Payment Options: Payment in US dollars is preferred through PayPal. My PayPal ID is the same as my email address: info@capturedlightning.com If you're not already familiar with this service, PayPal is safe, secure and easy - it allows you to safely make Credit Card purchases on the Internet. If you are new to PayPal, you'll also get a $5 credit just for signing up! Click on the PayPal emblem below to sign up or log in if you already use this service. If you live within the USA, I also accept a Postal Money Order or a personal or corporate check. However, if paying by check, please allow 10 days for the check to clear. International customers must use PayPal, an International Money Order drawn against a US bank, or a Western Union Money Transfer. Shipping and Insurance: I usually ship circulated coins. Uncirculated coins or specific mint selections are available for most clad coins upon request. Shipping and Handling in the USA is $2.50 per order. Insurance is strongly recommended ($1.30 for first $50.00) - I will not be responsible for coins lost in the mail. While I will ship to most countries, international shipping costs must be figured on a case by case basis, and insurance may not be available to some countries. Use the following table to find the cost for insuring shipments within the USA.
